The Legend of Lake Sapanca: According to the legend, there is a city buried beneath the lake. The reason for the city’s sudden disappearance is the greed and selfishness of its rich citizens. According to the legend told by the locals, a dervish man came from the nearby mountains to visit the town and wanted to be hosted by the town’s residents. However, the townspeople refused to host him or even give him a glass of water when he asked for one.

The poor man, disappointed, left the town in exhaustion but came across a humble shop where he could spend the night. The kind shopkeeper offered him food and a place to stay for the night. The next morning, the shopkeeper accompanied his guest towards the mountains. When he returned to his shop, he was surprised to see a large lake instead of the town he had known. Later, he realized that a disaster had occurred, and the entire town was swallowed by the lake. Today, you can still see a minaret rising from the center of the lake, which suggests that part, or even all, of the legend might be true. The lake submerged a town, and there are still some structures beneath it that have survived to this day.
